Children's Kidney Transplant Team

The kidney transplant team at University of Mississippi Medical Center and Children's of Mississippi is dedicated to the care of young patients undergoing transplant procedures either to receive a life-saving kidney or to graciously donate one. Each person on our transplant team plays a vital role in providing your family and young patient with expertise, knowledge and understanding.

Team members

  • Transplant nephrologists
    Physicians who specialize in disorders of the kidneys help determine if a child is a candidate for transplant and will help manage the child's condition after surgery.
  • Transplant surgeons
    Physicians who specialize in transplants and who perform the surgery.
  • Nurse practitioners
    Help guide families and children through the transplant process.
  • Nurse coordinators
    Organize care and provide education before and after transplantation.
  • Social workers
    Help families cope with various challenges and issues that arise during the transplantation process, including lodging, transportation, financing, and legal issues.
  • Financial coordinators
    Help families understand and manage the financial aspects of transplantation.
  • Pharmacists
    Dedicated pharmacists have extensive experience with medications for transplant patients and will monitor patient medications in the hospital and at clinic visits.
  • Dietitian
    Professionals who help manage patient nutrition before and after transplantation. The dietitian can help with any special dietary instructions or diets to manage co-existing medical complications.
  • Primary care physician
    A child's primary doctor works with the transplant team to provide general healthcare after transplantation.
  • Other team members
    Anesthesiologists, hematologists, infectious disease specialists, psychologists, and others who provide specialized assistance to the transplant team.
